Part 3: The Unseen Network

I had been sitting in the VIP sponsor section that evening, two rows behind a senator’s wife and a high-profile hotel developer. I wore a plain, unbranded dark suit. No security entourage. No flashing badges.

Most people in that glittering crowd saw me as a quiet, middle-aged veteran with silver at my temples and severe shrapnel scars mapping my right hand. That was exactly how I preferred it.

After leaving the Corps, I had quietly built Rowe Dominion Media from a small regional broadcasting company into a national entertainment and live-streaming empire. Pageants, sports networks, stadium production, talent syndication—half the cameras pointing at that Las Vegas stage were there because my company signed the payroll. The entire event existed this year because I had inked a three-year exclusive title sponsorship contract.

Not Vanessa. Not her corrupt donors. Me.

But because Grace had asked for a level playing field, I stayed in the shadows. I clapped when the crowd clapped, and I watched. Then came the sudden, unexplained backstage delay. The host announced a "brief technical review," and the house orchestra began looping the same transition music. A producer sprinted past my aisle, pale and sweating.

My phone buzzed. It was a text from Grace. She never texted during a show. It was only three words: I won’t quit.

A second later, a panicked call came from Nora, her backstage dressing assistant. "She needs you, Mr. Rowe. Now."

I didn't run. Running causes panic. I simply stood up, and my two security directors immediately flank-positioned beside me. Outside the arena, three of our black security SUVs moved into defensive placement. My compliance team had been on standby for three weeks following an anonymous tip regarding judge interference.

Vanessa thought she was walking through a room of helpless subordinates. She didn't realize she was walking through a web of recorded evidence.
