Part 2: The Title Deed Foreclosure

The elevator doors slid open with a soft, electronic chime that cut through the terrifying tension of the room.

Marcus Bell, my family’s senior corporate trust attorney, stepped onto the marble floor of the foyer.

He wasn't alone; three uniformed NYPD officers moved behind him, their heavy utility boots loud against the polished concrete.

Daniel scrambled backward away from my side, his hands automatically flying up to his waist as the officers drew closer.

"What is the meaning of this?" Gloria demanded, standing in front of her son like a shield. "This is a private family matter!"

"This is a crime scene, Ms. Bennett," the lead officer stated, his face an unyielding mask as he looked at the blood on my chin.

The paramedics rushed past them, dropping to their knees to stabilize my breathing and check the fracture along my ribcage.

"He threw the strike, officer," I whispered, pointing a trembling hand toward my husband's white suit jacket.

"He assaulted my client inside her own legal residence," Marcus Bell added, sliding a folder onto the dining table.

Daniel let out a frantic, desperate laugh, gesturing toward the luxury view outside the glass panels.

"Her residence? I am the managing partner of Vance Capital! I broker the logistics permits for this entire district!"

"You broker permits using a secondary occupancy license, Daniel," Marcus said, his voice dropping like an absolute hammer.

He pulled a certified copy of the master property deed from his portfolio, displaying the single signature at the bottom.

The apartment didn't belong to the Bennett estate, nor did it carry a single corporate lien from Vance Capital.

The title block was registered solely under my maiden name, backed by a permanent non-marital asset covenant.

"Ms. Gloria Bennett is currently trespassing on a restricted private property," Marcus announced to the officers.

"And Mr. Daniel Vance is currently subject to an immediate felony arrest for domestic assault and identity tampering."

Gloria’s face turned an ugly shade of ash, her hand flying to her throat as the officers moved past her shield.

The steel handcuffs clicked shut around Daniel’s wrists with a sharp, metallic sound that echoed off the high ceiling.

"Claire, please!" he yelled as they dragged him toward the elevator bay, his tailored jacket wrinkling under their grip.

"We can talk about the asset distribution! We can settle the mistress issue in private! Don't do this to my career!"

I didn't answer him, nor did I look back as the elevator doors closed on his frantic, pleading face.

Gloria stood frozen by the dining table, her velvet chair looking completely empty as the reality of her eviction settled in.

"You have exactly ten minutes to gather your personal effects from the guest wing, Gloria," I said flatly from the gurney.

"Before my security team purges your access codes from the entire perimeter network."
