Chapter 1 - You Didn’t Steal Him, You Confessed

Amber kissed Megan’s date in the middle of the wedding ballroom while Megan was still on the floor.

Broken wine glass glittered beside Megan’s hand.

Red wine spread across the marble like a wound.

Printed photographs lay scattered around her champagne gown, some soaked, some bent beneath shoes that had frozen mid-step when the kiss happened.

Above them, the grand chandelier kept shining.

The white flowers still stood in perfect arrangements.

The band had stopped playing, but one violin string hummed faintly in the silence.

Amber held Elliot by the collar of his black tuxedo and kissed him like victory.

Her blonde hair fell over one shoulder. Her gold evening gown caught every light in the room. Her eyes stayed half-open, looking past Elliot’s cheek toward Megan on the floor.

She wanted Megan to see.

She had always wanted Megan to see.

Amber pulled back just enough to smile.

Her voice was a cruel whisper, but the ballroom was quiet enough to hear it.

“You really thought he came here for you?”

A few guests gasped.

No one helped Megan stand.

That was the worst part.

Not the kiss.

Not the wine.

Not the photos scattered like evidence around her.

The worst part was the family’s silence.

Megan’s fingers trembled against the marble. A tiny shard of glass pressed near her palm, but she barely felt it.

She looked up through tears.

At Amber.

At Elliot.

At the relatives pretending horror was the same as innocence.

Then Megan’s eyes shifted toward her phone beside the photographs.

Slowly, carefully, she reached for it.

Amber did not notice.

She was too busy enjoying the room.

Elliot did.

His expression changed first.

The charming warmth vanished.

His face went cold.

He gently but firmly removed Amber’s hands from his tuxedo and stepped back.

Amber’s smile faltered.

“No,” Elliot said calmly. “I came here because I know what you did.”

The ballroom changed.

Amber blinked.

“What?”

Elliot’s lapel microphone caught the chandelier light.

A tiny black dot hidden near the edge of his jacket.

Megan lifted her phone slightly from the floor.

Recording.

Amber’s eyes darted toward it.

Her face began to pale.

Megan’s voice came low.

Devastated.

“Every wedding. Every man. Every lie.”

Amber took one small step back.

Elliot turned toward the stunned family guests.

His voice was cold now.

Official.

“And tonight, she finally said it on record.”

Amber reached for his arm.

He stepped away cleanly.

Not angry.

Not dramatic.

Just finished.

Megan pushed herself slowly onto one knee. Her gown was stained. Her hair was messy. Her cheeks were wet.

But her eyes were no longer breaking.

They were clear.

Amber stood exposed in the center of the ballroom while every family member stared at her.

Megan looked straight at her cousin.

“You didn’t steal him, Amber,” she said quietly. “You confessed.”
