Chapter 3: The Flaw

The flaw appeared in the most unexpected way. It wasn't a scandal or a public outburst; it was a medical anomaly.
That night, after the gala guests had departed and the estate was swallowed by an oppressive, heavy silence, Isabella took the heir to his pediatrician—a man who worked exclusively for the Vance family and knew the value of discretion.
"There’s a developmental issue," the doctor said, his voice measured and professional. He didn't look up from the chart. "It’s subtle, but it will become apparent as he grows. He will have difficulty with motor functions. He will need intense, constant therapy."
Isabella felt the room tilt. The perfection she had cultivated, the legacy she had been groomed to protect, rested entirely on the image of the perfect, golden heir. A "flawed" child was not an option in the Vance dynasty.
"Can it be fixed?" she asked, her voice cracking.

The doctor paused, looking at her with a mix of pity and cold pragmatism. "It can be managed. If he is kept out of the public eye. If the therapy is conducted in private. If the appearance of perfection is maintained at all costs."
Isabella realized then that the prison walls had just grown thicker. She was no longer just the keeper of the Vance reputation; she was the architect of a massive, lifelong lie.
