Chapter 6: The Exit

The aftermath was silent, as all things were in the Vance house. Sebastian didn't scream. He simply walked into his study and shut the door.

Isabella stood in the garden, the silence of the estate pressing in on her. She looked at the heir in her arms. He was not a dynasty. He was not an accessory. He was a child who needed a mother, not a handler.

For the first time, the prison door felt unlocked.

She walked into the house, but she didn't go to the nursery. She went to the master suite and packed a single bag. She didn't take the jewels. She didn't take the status symbols. She took the heir, wrapped him in a soft, simple blanket, and walked out the front door.

The security staff watched her, stunned, but no one moved. The order was not to stop her; the order was to maintain the image. If Isabella left, the image was broken anyway.

As she walked down the long, winding driveway of the Vance estate, the air began to feel different. It wasn't the sterilized, climate-controlled air of the fortress. It was the air of the world outside—messy, unpredictable, and entirely, beautifully real.

She didn't know where she was going, and for the first time in her life, the lack of a plan didn't terrify her. She was Isabella Vance no longer. She was just a woman with a child, walking away from a monolith of gold and silence. The dynasty was crumbling behind her, the glass of the ballroom was shattering, and the prison walls were finally, blessedly, falling away. The Vance perfection was gone, and in its place was something far more valuable: the freedom to be flawed.
