Chapter 2: The Mask of the Monarchy

Within seconds, four massive, suited security guards materialized from the edges of the ballroom, their expressions stern as they surrounded Maya. The ballroom guests whispered furiously, phone cameras secretly recording the unfolding drama, expecting a scene of a crying girl begging for her job.

But Maya’s hands remained perfectly steady. She slowly placed the silver tray on a nearby cocktail table, her dark eyes shifting from Julian to the approaching security detail.

"Mr. Sterling," Maya spoke, her voice surprisingly calm, carrying a distinct, velvety authority that felt entirely out of place for a catering waitress. "It was an accident. You stepped backward without looking. However, if you wish to discuss financial compensation for your suit, I am more than happy to settle it."

Julian let out a loud, mocking laugh, looking around at the crowd to share his amusement. "Settle it? With what? Your tip jar? You are a nobody, a disposable servant in my world. I don't want your pennies, girl. I want you ruined."

Right on cue, the heavy double doors of the VIP elevator clicked open at the back of the room. Mr. Harrison, the notoriously strict and elite Managing Director of Apex Tower—a man who routinely ignored calls from mid-tier billionaires—rushed out into the ballroom. His face was pale, sweat glistening at his temples as he scanned the room frantically.

Julian’s eyes lit up. He assumed Harrison was coming to personally handle the disturbance. "Mr. Harrison!" Julian called out, adjusting his stained white lapels. "You're just in time. Your incompetent staff just ruined my evening. Fire this girl immediately and have her dragged out."

Mr. Harrison didn't even glance at Julian. He brushed past the arrogant tech heir so fast his shoulder clipped Julian’s arm.

Harrison stopped directly in front of Maya. In front of the entire stunned ballroom, in front of Julian’s horrified fiancée, the powerful Managing Director deeply bowed his head in profound, absolute respect.

"Ma'am, I am so deeply sorry," Harrison stammered, his voice trembling. "The board of directors is waiting in the penthouse. Everyone is waiting for the primary shareholder. We had no idea you were down here testing the floor operations."

The grand ballroom went dead silent. The words hung in the air like a localized thunderbolt.

Julian froze. His cruel, triumphant smirk melted into an absolute, paralyzing panic. His breath hitched in his throat, his eyes bulging as he looked from the bowing director to the girl in the catering vest.

"Primary... shareholder?" Julian whispered, his voice cracking. "What do you mean, primary shareholder?"

Maya reached behind her head, smoothly pulling the elastic band from her hair. Her dark locks fell around her shoulders in elegant waves. She unbuttoned the cheap black hospitality vest, tossing it onto the table next to the spilled champagne, revealing a custom-tailored silk blouse underneath.

"I never lied to you, Julian," Maya said softly, her eyes locking onto his with an icy, terrifying certainty. "You assumed I was a servant because of the clothes I wore. You value people based solely on what you think you can exploit. But you forgot one thing: I own the Apex Tower. And more importantly, I own your debt."
