Chapter 3: The Hostile Takeover

The silence in the room was so dense you could hear the soft ticking of the luxury watches worn by the wealthy onlookers. Victoria, Julian’s fiancée, let out a sharp, choked gasp, her fingers digging so tightly into her designer clutch that the fabric threatened to rip.

"Maya... no, there must be a mistake," Julian stammered, stepping back, his face draining of all color until it matched his stained white suit. "You're Maya Vance? The reclusive founder of Vance Global Tech? The woman who bought out our primary supply chain last month?"

"The very same," Maya replied, crossing her arms. "I like to inspect my properties from the ground up, Julian. I wanted to see how the elite behave when they think no one important is watching. And you gave me quite the show."

Maya produced a sleek, matte-black smartphone from her pocket. She didn't look at Julian as her fingers danced across the screen, sending a single, silent text message to her executive board.

Execute Phase Three. Pull the funding.

Within five seconds, a sharp, synchronized chorus of digital pings and ringtones echoed through the pockets of dozens of executives inside the ballroom. Julian’s phone vibrated violently against his hip. He pulled it out with trembling fingers.

The notification on his screen was a red alert from his corporate legal team: VANCE GLOBAL HAS JUST REJECTED OUR CREDIT EXTENSION. ALL STERLING TECH ASSETS ARE BEING LIQUIDATED. THE BOARD IS FORCING AN EMERGENCY BUYOUT.

"Maya, please!" Julian cried out, completely dropping all his pride, his voice rising to a frantic shriek. He took a desperate step forward, reaching out his hands. "If you pull the credit line, our stock will collapse before midnight! My family will lose everything! We will be completely ruined!"

"You should have thought about that before you brought your toxic pride into my ecosystem," Maya said quietly. She looked down at the dark stain on his jacket. "You said my lifetimes of labor couldn't afford that suit, Julian. But it turns out, your entire empire couldn't afford my silence."

"Maya, sweetheart!" Victoria suddenly stepped forward, her cruel demeanor instantly transforming into a grotesque, sycophantic grin. "It was just a misunderstanding! A little joke! We love your work, we respect you so much!"

"Get these people out of my tower," Maya commanded coldly, turning her back on them. "They are trespassing."

Four security guards, who had been waiting for Maya’s command, instantly stepped forward, locking their arms around Julian and Victoria, dragging them toward the exit in front of the entire laughing, whispering high-society crowd.
