Part 15: The Correctional Confrontation

I walked into the maximum-security visitor’s block of the metropolitan correctional facility at 4:00 p.m. that afternoon.
Brenda sat behind the reinforced glass partition, her orange jumpsuit wrinkled, her face marked by deep lines of exhaustion.
She clutched the plastic telephone receiver, her hand shaking violently as she looked at my clean suit and calm posture.
"You think you've secured the entire network because you raided Arthur's vault in Boston, Elias?" she whispered viciously.
"My network still holds the primary development deeds to the northern sector. You will never build on that land."
"The northern development deeds were officially seized and liquidated by the state treasury two hours ago, Brenda," I replied.
My voice remained perfectly level, a flat registration of finality that offered no room for negotiation or family sentiment.
"Every single patent, vehicle, and real estate asset associated with your nameplate has been auctioned to satisfy the debts."
She stared at me through the glass, her mouth opening slightly as the full reality of her absolute ruin settled in.

"But the person who knows how to build the house is the one who knows exactly how to dismantle the foundation."
