Chapter 5 - The BetrayalWhen Lorenzo returned to the estate, every light was on.

But no guards were visible.

The front doors were unlocked.

He entered.

“Daniel!”

No answer.

Mara followed despite his order.

The house was silent.

Too silent.

Then Lucas's monitor alarm sounded upstairs.

Lorenzo ran.

He opened the bedroom door.

Daniel stood beside the bed.

A syringe in his hand.

Lucas was awake.

Terrified.

“Dad!”

Lorenzo stopped.

“Put it down.”

Daniel turned.

“Lorenzo.”

“You've been working for Matteo.”

Daniel's eyes filled with regret.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“He has my daughter.”

Lorenzo's anger faltered.

“Your daughter?”

“Eleven years old.”

“Where is she?”

“With Matteo.”

Daniel looked at Lucas.

“I was told if I didn't help him, she'd die.”

Lorenzo stared.

“You helped him poison my son.”

“I thought I could control it.”

“You almost killed him.”

“I know.”

Daniel dropped the syringe.

Lorenzo rushed to Lucas.

“Are you okay?”

Lucas nodded.

Then whispered:

“Daddy, he said he was sorry.”

Lorenzo looked at Daniel.

Daniel was crying.

For fifteen years, Lorenzo had believed Daniel was the one man who would never betray him.

He had been wrong.

But Daniel had also been a father trapped by fear.

“Where is Matteo?”

Daniel wiped his face.

“He's at the old Duca warehouse.”

“What does he want?”

“Control.”

Lorenzo stood.

“Then we'll give him something else.”

“What?”

“His downfall.”

Daniel looked at him.

“You're going after him.”

“Yes.”

“Then take me.”

Lorenzo studied him.

“Why?”

“Because I know where he keeps the girl.”

May you like

Lorenzo nodded.

“Then you're coming.”
