Chapter 6 - The WarehouseThe old warehouse stood beside the river.

Rain hammered the roof.
Lorenzo entered through the side door.
Matteo waited in the center.
Lucas was not there.
Neither was Daniel's daughter.
“You came.”
Lorenzo looked at his brother.
“You poisoned my son.”
Matteo smiled.
“I gave him what he needed.”
“You nearly killed him.”
“I gave him a future.”
Lorenzo's voice became cold.
“You're insane.”
“No.”
Matteo shook his head.
“I'm practical.”
“You wanted him dead so you could inherit.”
“Of course.”
The honesty was almost worse than the betrayal.
“You're my brother.”
“And you were always my father's favorite.”
Lorenzo stared.
“So that's what this is about?”
“You got everything.”
“The company.”
“The respect.”
“The house.”
“The family.”
“And you think killing Lucas fixes that?”
“It makes me heir.”
“You're not heir.”
Matteo laughed.
“You still don't understand.”
He pointed toward a monitor.
A live video showed Daniel's daughter.
Alive.
Terrified.
Then another screen appeared.
Lucas.
Lying in his hospital bed.
Lorenzo's blood froze.
Matteo smiled.
“One child for another.”
Daniel stepped forward.
“Let them go.”
Matteo raised his gun.
“Not yet.”
Lorenzo looked around.
He noticed something.
A red light.
A camera.
He smiled slightly.
Matteo frowned.
“What?”
“You've been talking too much.”
The warehouse doors exploded open.
Federal agents entered.
Mara had sent the evidence ahead.
The notebook.
The recordings.
The medical reports.
Everything.
Matteo panicked.
He reached for his weapon.
Lorenzo moved first.
He knocked it away.
Matteo fell.
The fight was over within seconds.
Daniel ran toward the room where his daughter was being held.
He found her alive.
She ran into his arms.
Lorenzo watched from the doorway.
The empire could wait.
The children couldn't.
Then his phone rang.
The doctor.
“Mr. Duca.”
Lorenzo's heart stopped.
“What happened?”
“Lucas's condition is improving.”
May you like
Lorenzo closed his eyes.
For the first time in three years, he allowed himself to breathe.
