It came from prison.

He almost threw it away.
Instead, he opened it.
Inside was a single page.

I know you hate me.
You should.
But there is something you deserve to know.
Father never wanted you to inherit the empire. He wanted you to leave it.
Lorenzo stopped reading.
The next sentence hurt.
He wanted you to become the kind of father Lucas needed.
Lorenzo sat back.
His father had spent years preparing him to become ruthless.
Yet perhaps, at the end, he had regretted it.
The letter continued.
You became better than both of us.
Lorenzo folded the paper.
He didn't forgive Matteo.
Not yet.
Maybe never.
But he no longer carried the same anger.
Some things could be punished.
Some things could be understood.
And some things simply had to end.
He walked outside.
Lucas was playing soccer with Emma.
Elena was sitting beneath the tree.
Lorenzo smiled.
He finally understood what his father had failed to teach him.
