Chapter 12 - The Double-CrossI opened the folder. My eyes scanned the first few pages, and my stomach physically turned.
Isabella had been working through a complex web of shell firms to orchestrate the failure of two massive acquisitions linked to Thorne Industries. The file contained offshore payment records and correspondence with a notorious corporate raider named Vikas Varma. Varma was planning a hostile takeover. Isabella hadn’t seduced Marcus out of passion. The affair had been entirely about access to trade secrets.
But there was something worse.
Marcus had discovered the leak three weeks ago. Instead of firing her or calling the authorities, he had tried to “double-cross” the spy. He had been feeding Isabella false information to mislead Varma, using his own affair as a chessboard.

“He gambled with your life to protect his profit margins,” Robert said coldly. “Isabella realized last night that her cover was blown. She attacked you to hurt Marcus where it would destroy him most.”
