Chapter 15 - Autumn in the BerkshiresThree months later, as the vibrant colors of autumn painted the trees in the Berkshires, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I named him Ethan Hayes Thorne. He had his father’s eyes, but I vowed he would never have his father’s heart.

I did not return to the city. I transformed the sprawling country estate from a sterile vacation property into a home filled with warmth, books, and the smell of baking bread. I used a significant portion of the settlement to open the Hayes Recovery Center, dedicating it to supporting women who had been victims of domestic and corporate abuse.

Isabella Rossi was sentenced to four years in prison. Without Marcus’s protection, her world of luxury collapsed. Marcus saw his son under a rigid, heavily monitored custody arrangement. “You did well, Khloe,” he said softly.

“I used to think I was weak for staying so long,” I admitted, watching my son sleep.

“You were never weak,” Robert replied. “You were just waiting for the right moment to step into the light.”

I smiled. I had lost a husband, a lifestyle, and an illusion. But in their place, I had found a voice, a purpose, and a peace that no amount of Thorne money could ever buy.
