Part 6: The Rainy Thursday Discovery

While I played the fragile, breaking wife at the office, a team of highly paid professionals was quietly dismantling Victor's life from the outside.

My corporate attorney quietly issued a series of quiet, ironclad subpoenas for the fertility clinic’s security logs and digital metadata. My private investigator tracked every single movement of Lila’s compact sedan. And my personal cybersecurity team successfully bypassed the company’s auxiliary servers, recovering a cache of deleted emails that had passed between Victor and his mother’s private server.

On a bleak, rainy Thursday afternoon, the smoking gun arrived via an encrypted file link from my investigator. It was a high-definition video file recorded outside the subterranean private vault of a boutique bank downtown.

The footage was crystal clear. Victor and Lila were standing outside the heavy steel doors of the vault. Claudine stood between them, her face illuminated by the harsh fluorescent lights as she handed Victor a thick manila folder. Inside the folder, visible as Victor flipped through the pages, were the formal amendments to my private family trust—bearing a flawless, forged copy of my signature.

Lila leaned against Victor’s shoulder, letting out a sharp, mocking laugh that echoed perfectly through the investigator's directional microphone.

"By Christmas," Lila sneered on the tape, her eyes gleaming with malice, "Mara will be rotting in a comfortable private facility, Victor will be playing the grieving, broken-hearted husband, and I’ll finally be the official Mrs. Lang."

I watched the video clip once through to the end. My expression didn't change. My heart didn't skip a beat. I simply closed the laptop, picked up my desk phone, and dialed the corporate secretary.

"Call an emergency board meeting for tomorrow morning at nine," I commanded. "Full attendance mandatory. No exceptions."
