Part 8: The Projection of Truth

The massive, wall-mounted presentation screens flickered to life, cutting through the boardroom’s soft lighting with the blinding clarity of a searchlight.
First came the official fertility clinic records, highlighted in stark yellow box boundaries. It showed Lila Harrow utilizing my active executive insurance card, followed directly by the digital metadata of the forged surrogacy consent form. Beside it, the screen displayed Victor’s personal cell phone number listed as the primary legal and emergency contact for the pregnancy.
Victor’s handsome face drained of color so fast it looked as if his blood had turned to water.
Before he could speak, the screen transitioned. The deleted text messages appeared in massive font, followed by the explicit emails detailing the exact strategy to bypass corporate voting protocols. Finally, the high-definition video from the rainy Thursday afternoon began to play. Lila’s voice, sharp and laced with venomous laughter, filled the silent boardroom: "...Mara will be rotting in a comfortable private facility, Victor will be playing the grieving, broken-hearted husband..."
Claudine’s hand flew to her throat, her voice dropping into a desperate, panicked whisper. "This is completely illegal. You cannot display private family matters in a corporate forum!"
"Yes, I can," I countered, my voice echoing off the glass walls. "Because forgery and corporate fraud happen to be criminal matters."
Lila stood up so fast her chair screeched violently against the hardwood. "Mara, please! I can explain everything! Victor forced me into—"
"Sit down," I commanded. The sheer authority in my voice hit her like a physical blow. She dropped back into her seat, trembling violently.
Victor slammed both of his palms flat onto the glass table, leaning forward in a desperate attempt to physically intimidate me. "This is an internal, private family issue, Mara! The board has no business interfering in a marital dispute!"

I looked away from him, addressing the silent, horrified board of directors instead.
"It became an absolute corporate matter the exact second my husband utilized fraud to try and declare the majority shareholder mentally incompetent to illicitly seize voting control of this firm."
