Chapter 11 - The Fall of the House of VanessaBy the end of the month, the pressure had become too much for Vanessa's fragile ego to bear.

Without their millions, without the high-end parties, the designer clothes, and the country club memberships, her social circle vanished. Her friends stopped answering her calls, her followers on social media began to mock her "poverty transition," and her parents refused to help her, fearing that their own assets would be targeted by Katherine’s legal team.

One evening, Daniel returned to the house on Elm Street after a long, humiliating day of interviewing for entry-level programming jobs.

The front door was wide open, the screen door banging in the autumn wind.

"Vanessa?" Daniel called out, stepping into the dark living room.

The house was empty.

All of Vanessa’s bags, her designer diaper cases, and her clothes were gone. On the kitchen counter lay a single, cold cup of coffee and a brief, printed letter from her divorce attorney.

She had left him, taking baby Arthur with her to her sister's house in Connecticut, leaving Daniel alone in the very house he had spent his life trying to forget.

Daniel fell onto the old sofa, his face buried in his hands, his body shaking with dry, silent sobs. He had wanted to build an empire to prove he was better than his father, better than his mother.

Instead, he had built a prison of sand, and the tide had finally come in.
