Part 9: The Audit and the Fall

Kelly remained stranded on the waiting bench, surrounded by security guards. "This entire dramatic performance is absolutely ridiculous," she muttered under her breath.
Evelyn turned around to face her one last time. "No, Kelly. What is truly ridiculous is that you genuinely believed your surname gave you a lifetime permission slip to abuse human beings."
She nodded toward the chief legal officer. "Bring up the internal files."
The legal officer tapped his tablet, transferring a massive spreadsheet onto the large high-definition reception monitor for the entire hallway to see.
"An intensive internal compliance audit began six weeks ago," the legal officer announced, "following repeated staff complaints regarding Ms. Kelly Mercer’s behavior. We uncovered massive irregular charges attached to your corporate household account."
The screen detailed a systematic pattern of corporate fraud:
Private medical transport services utilized by Kelly’s personal friends to avoid Manhattan traffic after minor cosmetic procedures.
Luxury executive recovery suites booked under fraudulent family designations for individuals who had no legal connection to the holding company.
Specialist consultations and priority pharmacy deliveries routed to non-eligible members listed falsely as "in-home caregivers" or "dependent relatives."
Daniel stared at the monitor, his face turning a deep shade of red. "Kelly... what on earth did you do? You used corporate medical funds for your social circle?"
"Those are nothing but minor administrative reporting mistakes!" Kelly yelled, her voice cracking.
"The digital forms carry your encrypted electronic signature," the legal officer countered coldly. "The evidence has already been referred to the state insurance fraud division. Effective immediately, your household's concierge healthcare sponsorship is terminated."
Kelly looked at Evelyn, pure horror finally dawning on her. "You can't take away my family's healthcare!"
"I am not denying you emergency medical care, Kelly," Evelyn said calmly. "Any lawful emergency treatment remains protected under federal guidelines. But I am ending the luxury privileges you obtained through systematic intimidation and corporate fraud. You will no longer use medical care as a social throne."
"My mother needs world-class specialists!" Kelly cried.
"Your mother’s medically necessary treatment will not be interrupted," Evelyn clarified. "Her medical team will transition her seamlessly to a standard insurance plan. But as for you, Kelly... you may obtain private coverage through ordinary channels like any other independent adult."

Kelly looked physically sick. "You expect me to sit in ordinary, public waiting rooms?!"
The nurse manager couldn't help but smile. Evelyn answered with a single, devastating word: "Yes."
