Chapter 11 - Police on the PremisesThe heavy double doors of the auditorium swung open with a dramatic bang.

Four uniform police officers, accompanied by two campus security guards and a woman in a sharp grey business suit—Claire’s personal attorney, Sarah Jenkins—marched down the center aisle.

"Daniel Vance? Lorraine Vance?" the lead officer called out, his eyes locked on the pair.

Daniel looked around wildly, searching for an exit, but the aisles were blocked. Lorraine grabbed his arm, her fingers clawing at his sleeve. "Daniel, do something! Tell them she’s lying! Tell them it’s a setup!"

"Officers," Sarah Jenkins said, stepping forward and handing them a certified folder. "Here are the signed emergency protective orders, the physical assault evidence, and the digital forensics verifying the unauthorized system breach and domestic battery that took place last night."

The lead officer nodded, walking up to Daniel. "Daniel Vance, you are under arrest for domestic battery, felony assault, and grand larceny. Hands behind your back."

"No! Get away from him!" Lorraine screamed, lunging forward to block the officer. She was immediately restrained by a second officer, her purse falling to the floor and spilling its contents—including the very shears she had used to cut Claire’s hair.

The heavy steel blades clattered loudly against the floor, sliding across the polished wood to stop right at the base of Claire’s podium.
