Without notes, relying purely on her deep, intimate knowledge of her own work, she fielded complex mathematical and algorithmic questions from the committee. She explained how her software could scale to protect national infrastructure, how it could prevent academic fraud on a global level, and how its security protocols were utterly unbreakable.
When she finished, the committee did not even request to deliberate in private.
Dr. Harrison stood up, his eyes shining with profound respect. He looked at the other members, who all nodded in unison.
"Candidate Sterling," Dr. Harrison said, his voice echoing in the quiet room. "In my forty years of academia, I have never witnessed a defense of such extraordinary intellectual rigor, physical courage, and moral clarity. Your contribution to the field of computer science is monumental."
He smiled, a warm, genuine expression.
