Chapter 12 - A Kingdom DividedThe announcement of Arya’s pregnancy threw the Valentino family council into a state of absolute chaos. A meeting was called in the historic underground boardroom of the estate—a room lined with stone walls and portraits of the original founders who had built the syndicate's wealth.

Six elder capos sat around the long oak table, their faces grim as Dante sat at the head, his arm draped casually over the back of Arya’s chair. Arya sat rigid, her hands crossed over her stomach, feeling the collective hostility of the old world burning through the air.
"This is an insult to our traditions, Don Dante," growled Capo Vincente, the oldest member of the council. "A maid’s child cannot inherit the Valentino seat. The Lucchese family is already calling this an act of disrespect. They are mobilizing their crews at the shipping yards."
Dante didn't flinch. He picked up his whiskey glass, swirled the amber liquid, and set it down with a soft thud.

"The child in this woman's womb carries 50% of my DNA, Vincente," Dante said, his voice dropping into a register that made the older men in the room adjust their collars. "And according to the charter signed by my grandfather, the Don’s first-born child is the absolute successor, regardless of the mother’s lineage."
"We can terminate the pregnancy," Vincente suggested, his voice cold and analytical. "A simple medical intervention, a generous settlement for the girl, and we proceed with the Lucchese alliance."
Before Vincente could finish his sentence, Dante’s hand flashed across the table.
He grabbed the heavy crystal ash tray and slammed it directly into the old man’s jaw. The sound of cracking bone echoed through the stone room as Vincente fell backward out of his chair, blood spraying onto the white table runner.

Dante stood up, leaning over the table, his eyes blazing with a terrifying, demonic fury.
"If any man in this room, or in this city, breathes a word about touching my child or the woman who carries it, I will not just kill him. I will erase his entire family tree from the records of this state. The council is adjourned. Prepare for war with the Luccheses. Anyone who isn't on my firing line by dawn is a target."
