Chapter 8 - The Cage of GoldAs the weeks melted into winter, the boundaries of Arya’s life began to shrink until the Valentino estate was her entire universe. She no longer had a credit card debt. Her mother had been moved to a private suite in the finest medical facility in Pennsylvania, fully funded by Valentino assets.

But with every layer of security added to her life, a lock was placed on her freedom.

She wasn't allowed to leave the estate grounds without a three-car security detail. Her phone was encrypted by Dante’s tech specialists, and her conversations with her mother were monitored for "operational safety." She was living in a palace, but the walls were made of gold and iron.

One evening, after finishing the end-of-month financial audits, Arya walked into Dante's private study to deliver the reports. He was sitting by the roaring fireplace, a glass of dark whiskey in his hand, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar.

"Sit with me, Arya," he said, gesturing to the leather chair opposite him.

"I should get back to my quarters, Mr. Valentino," she replied softly. "The morning filings are heavy."

Dante stood up, placing his glass on the mantle. He crossed the room with slow, deliberate steps until he stood directly in front of her, trapping her between his frame and the heavy office door.

"Your quarters are down the hall from mine now," he whispered, his hand rising to cup her chin, forcing her to look into his whiskey-colored eyes. "Stop running from me. You know why you’re in this room. You know why I dismantled my own household staff for you."

"You said it was a debt of honor," Arya breathed, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.

"It started as a debt," Dante murmured, his face tilting down toward hers, his breath warm against her lips. "Now, it's an obsession. I’ve spent months watching you bend for people who aren't worthy of wiping your shoes. From this night on, you only bend for me."
