Chapter 10 - The Double BetrayalReturning to a dilapidated rented apartment on the edge of the city, Andrew found the door unlocked. Inside, Margaret was sitting on the dusty floor, weeping hysterically amidst scattered belongings.
"Mother! What happened now?" Andrew asked, completely exhausted.
"Brenda... that vile girl..." Margaret sobbed. "She discovered I had hidden a secret savings certificate worth two hundred thousand dollars beneath the mattress. This afternoon, she arrived with two thugs, forced me to sign the transfer papers, and stripped us of everything!"

Andrew collapsed onto a worn-out sofa. The very woman he had protected, the one for whom he had sacrificed his devoted wife, turned out to be a ruthless viper who left them with absolutely nothing.
He vividly remembered the nights Mariana had personally prepared meals for his mother, and how she stayed up until dawn correcting his flawed business proposals without a single complaint. The stark contrast garmed his heart like a blade, leaving an open wound of regret.
