Chapter 15 - The Woman in the Train StationLorenzo did not go alone.

He simply made Lucia believe he had.

The meeting place was an abandoned train station outside Philadelphia.

Rain fell steadily.

Lorenzo stood beneath the old clock.

Ten minutes passed.

Then a woman appeared.

Dark coat.

Black gloves.

Green eyes.

Lorenzo knew immediately.

"Lucia."

She stopped.

For several seconds, neither spoke.

Then she smiled.

"You got taller."

He laughed through tears.

"You're real."

"So are you."

He stepped toward her.

She raised a hand.

"Don't."

"Why?"

"Because we're being watched."

Lorenzo looked around.

Nothing.

Lucia whispered:

"The Circle didn't die."

"I know."

"No."

She shook her head.

"You don't."

She handed him a flash drive.

"This contains names."

"Whose?"

"Everyone who inherited the organization."

Lorenzo stared at the device.

"Why give it to me?"

"Because they're coming for Ravenwood."

"Who?"

Lucia looked at him.

"Your wedding was only the first attempt."

Lorenzo's stomach tightened.

"There was never supposed to be another wedding."

Lucia smiled sadly.

"There will be."

"What?"

"They need you married."

"Why?"

"Because the Duca inheritance has a legal clause."

Lorenzo stared.

"What clause?"

"Control passes to the spouse if the heir dies."

He understood.

"They're planning to kill me."

Lucia nodded.

"And make Vivien the legal owner."

A train horn sounded in the distance.

Lucia stepped backward.

"I have to go."

"Wait."

She stopped.

"Come home."

Lucia's eyes softened.

"I don't know what home means anymore."

"It means somewhere you're safe."

She looked at him.

"Then make Ravenwood safe."

She disappeared into the rain.

Lorenzo looked at the flash drive.

For the first time, he understood.

The enemy wasn't trying to destroy his family.

They were trying to inherit it.
