Chapter 2: The Perfect Lie

Standing halfway down the sweeping marble staircase, Victoria watched the devastation with chilling calmness. She held her cell phone to her ear, the picture of a concerned family member dialing 911. Slowly, she lowered the phone.

"She fell, Arthur," Victoria said, her voice dripping with manufactured sorrow.

Just then, footsteps echoed from the right hallway. Rosa, the family’s devoted maid of ten years, rushed in. Taking in the horrific scene, Rosa gasped, dropping to her knees beside Arthur. She was hyperventilating, staring at Eleanor’s motionless body in pure shock.

Victoria saw her opportunity. Her demeanor flipped like a switch. Stepping down to the final stair, she pointed a manicured finger directly at the trembling maid. Her voice was ice-cold and absolute: "Rosa pushed her."
