Chapter 8: Caught in the Act

Victoria slipped past the nurses' station and entered Eleanor’s dimly lit room. The heart monitor beeped rhythmically. She pulled a syringe of insulin from her purse, enough to cause a fatal heart attack, and approached the IV line.
"Goodbye, old bat," she whispered, preparing to inject the lethal dose.
Suddenly, the room lights flared to life.

Arthur stepped out from the bathroom, followed by two armed police officers. The bed was empty—just pillows arranged under a blanket. Eleanor had been safely moved to another floor hours ago. The syringe slipped from Victoria's trembling hands, shattering on the hospital floor.
