Chapter 3: The Frame-Up

Arthur’s head snapped up. Next to his mother's limp hand lay her wooden cane, violently discarded in the fall. The pieces of Victoria's lie fit perfectly into Arthur's panicked mind.

The camera-like focus of Arthur's gaze shifted to Rosa. The poor maid’s eyes widened to the size of saucers, a choked, strangled noise escaping her throat. She couldn't even form the words to defend herself. But Arthur’s grief had already mutated into blinding rage. The veins in his neck bulged as he glared up at the woman who had practically raised him, now believing she was a murderer. In the corner, little Lily backed further into the shadows, terrified of the monster in the purple dress.
