Chapter 11 - The Line in the SandEthan slowly stood up. The warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by an icy, lethal calm as he turned to face his wife.

Vanessa, sensing the shift in the atmosphere but still relying on her belief that Ethan would never cause a public scene to ruin his reputation, took a step forward. She touched her own reddened cheek, a manufactured look of grievance on her face.

“You slapped me in front of everyone,” she lied, her voice shaking with a carefully rehearsed anger. “You embarrassed me.”

The billionaire stared at her, his gaze so cold it seemed to freeze the humid night air. “No.”

He took a step closer, his voice carrying clearly over the silent, rapt crowd. “You embarrassed yourself.”

Several guests quietly lowered their champagne glasses, unable to look Ethan in the eye. Vanessa looked around the crowd, her eyes pleading, expecting someone from her elite social circle, someone she had dined with and gossiped with, to step forward and defend her.

No one spoke. The Hollywood stars, the CEOs, the politicians—all of them stood like statues, suddenly realizing that the woman standing before them had just crossed a line from which there was no return.

Before Vanessa could speak again, the sound of firm footsteps echoed across the deck. Ethan’s longtime corporate attorney, a stern man named Mr. Vance (no relation, but a brother in loyalty), stepped forward from the shadows of the house. He was holding a sleek, black leather folder.

“You asked me to keep these ready, sir,” the attorney said quietly, handing the folder to Ethan.
