Then, completely disregarding his ruined clothes and the hundreds of wealthy eyes watching him, the billionaire knelt beside her on the wet concrete. He knelt just as she had knelt beside him countless times when he was a sick child in that drafty Chicago apartment.
He gently took her hands, using a dry corner of the towel to dry her wrinkled fingers. “You spent your whole life taking care of me, Mom,” he murmured, his voice breaking. “It’s my turn now.”
The elderly mother’s tears flowed freely, mixing with the pool water on her cheeks. She reached up with a trembling hand and touched his face, her thumb wiping away a tear that had escaped his eye.
“I don't need a mansion, Ethan,” she whispered softly. “I already have everything I need. I have my son.”
