Chapter 9 - The SplashDriven by a toxic cocktail of arrogance, alcohol, and deep-seated malice, Vanessa took a step forward. "Let's see how well your cheap dress holds up," she whispered.

With a sudden, sharp shove, Vanessa pushed Mary backward.
Mary lost her footing on the slick marble tile. With a gasp of shock, she fell backward into the deep end of the infinity pool. The heavy impact broke the surface of the water, sending a massive splash across the manicured deck.
The music didn't stop instantly, but the collective gasp of the nearby guests silenced the laughter on the patio. Within seconds, a suffocating quiet rippled across the entire estate. The jazz band stopped playing. The laughter died in the throats of the elite.

Mary struggled to the surface, gasping for air, her simple navy dress heavy and soaked, weighing her down. Her silver hair clung to her face, and her faux-pearl necklace had broken, the tiny beads sinking to the bottom of the illuminated pool.
Vanessa stood at the edge, a look of smug satisfaction on her face, completely unbothered by the horror of the surrounding guests. She casually smoothed down her designer gown, expecting her high-society peers to join in her cruel amusement. But the silence that answered her was deafening.
