Chapter 27

Chapter 28: The Silence of the Defeated
The rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling windows of Elena’s office, mirroring the dramatic, turbulent end to the corporate war.
The security intercom buzzed. It was Sarah. "Ms. Carter... Victor Sterling is in the lobby. He looks terrible. He’s demanding to see you."
"Send him up," Elena said calmly.
Victor did not walk into the office with the arrogant swagger he had possessed weeks prior. His suit was soaked with rain, his shoulders were slumped, and the micro-expressions of his face spoke only of pure, unadulterated desperation.
"You did this," he hissed, his voice trembling. "You leaked the DOJ files to Arthur. You destroyed my life."
Elena stood behind her desk, a solitary figure of absolute, unbreakable power. The cinematic lighting cast her in a formidable silhouette.
"I didn't destroy your life, Victor," Elena said, her voice lacking any trace of pity or anger. It was simply the cold, undeniable truth. "Your own greed destroyed you. I just refused to be your collateral damage. You are standing in the ashes of the fire you lit."

Victor stared at her, his mouth opening and closing as he searched for a threat, a plea, anything to regain control. But there was nothing left. Elena had stripped him of everything, leaving him with only the crushing weight of his own moral consequences.
He turned and walked out of the office in absolute, defeated silence.
