Chapter 11 - The Confrontation

“This is my wedding reception,” Nora said, keeping her voice incredibly steady. “No,” Ophelia replied, her voice carrying over the sudden quiet of the room. “This is my hotel, my guest list, my family name, and my son’s future. She thought getting pregnant would secure her position. She thought a child would make her untouchable.”

Julian appeared beside them, his face pale with alarm. “Mother, not here,” he pleaded. But Ophelia ignored him. With a sudden, vicious movement, she clamped her fingers around Nora’s left hand, twisting hard enough to elicit a sharp gasp. With one brutal pull, Ophelia slid the three-million-dollar ring from Nora’s finger and held it aloft beneath the crystal chandelier. The diamond fractured the light, casting bright shards across the terrified faces of the guests. “You don’t deserve my son,” Ophelia spat. “And you certainly don’t deserve to wear a Fairchild diamond.”
