The trial's defining moment occurred when Julian Fairchild took the stand. He walked to the witness box in a sharp navy suit, looking older and infinitely more exhausted. Ophelia watched him from the defense table, her eyes silently commanding him to obey, to protect the family name one last time.
“When did you first understand your mother’s company was engaged in systemic fraud?” the prosecutor asked. “On my wedding night,” Julian replied softly. “And before that, why did you ignore your wife’s concerns?” Julian looked down, the shame evident in his posture. “Because believing my wife meant questioning the story I had been raised inside. And I was a coward. I am testifying today because the truth does not become less true when it embarrasses your family.” Ophelia’s face finally cracked, the empire falling not by the FBI, but by the words of her only son.
