Chapter 15 - The Butterfly and the AirplaneThe cemetery was quiet, the only sound being the wind rustling through the gold and crimson maple leaves.

Claire stood before two small, gray marble headstones.
One was engraved with a delicate silver butterfly. The other bore a small, hand-carved wooden airplane.
She knelt down in the soft grass, placing a fresh bouquet of white lilies between the graves.
"It's over, my loves," Claire whispered, her tears finally falling—not tears of agony, but of release.
"The trial ended this morning. Daniel and Vanessa were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. They will never walk free again. They will never hurt anyone else."
She reached into her pocket, pulling out the small silver rattle she had recovered from the hospital suite, placing it gently next to the wooden airplane.
