Chapter 11 - The Legal ShieldThe harassment from extended family continued through the week via text messages from spoofed numbers. I realized that blocking them wasn't enough; I needed a permanent barrier.
I used the remainder of my savings—money I had earmarked for a down payment on a house—to hire a family attorney. We drafted a formal Cease and Desist letter, addressed to my mother, Brianna, and Nicole. It detailed the medical endangerment, the financial exploitation, and the ongoing harassment. It explicitly stated that any further contact, either direct or through third parties, would result in immediate legal action for harassment and a request for a restraining order.
When the lawyer asked if I was sure I wanted to send it to my own mother, I didn't hesitate. "Send it."
The day the letters were delivered via certified mail, the spoofed texts stopped. The silence was absolute. For the first time in his life, my son would be born into a world where his father's family couldn't reach him. It was a tragic realization, but an incredibly necessary one.
