Chapter 19 - A New NormalOver the next few months, we settled into the beautiful, exhausting rhythm of new parenthood. Late-night feedings, diaper changes, and the sheer exhaustion were nothing compared to what we had endured before. This was a shared burden, built on love and mutual respect.

Kelsey eventually reached out again. She had gotten a job and was living with roommates. We agreed to meet her for coffee at a neutral location. She was nervous, but she offered a genuine, tearful apology to Rebecca, taking full accountability for her complicity.
We didn't invite her to the apartment right away, and she didn't ask to come. She understood that boundaries were the only way forward. Slowly, tentatively, we began to build a new relationship with her—one based on mutual respect rather than fear of my mother. As for Patricia, Brianna, and Nicole, we heard nothing. The silence was the greatest gift they could have ever given us.
