Chapter 14 - The Mistress Scorned
Vanessa had initially played the loyal soldier. She told police I lunged at her. But loyalty to Marcus was always a one-way street. During discovery, Vanessa’s lawyers received copies of Marcus’s internal communications. She read emails where Marcus called her an "unstable employee" who had become "obsessed" with him. She realized he was planning to throw her under the bus to save his corporate standing, and that he was actively sleeping with a third woman. Hell hath no fury like a mistress made into a scapegoat. Vanessa flipped. She handed over terabytes of company messages, financial ledgers, and private recordings. She provided proof that Marcus had explicitly instructed her to intimidate me. Her cooperation guaranteed her probation, but it handed us the final nails for Marcus’s coffin.
