Chapter 7 - The Attack

Vanessa stopped right beside me. “You ruined everything,” she hissed. “Keep moving,” Dana warned, stepping forward. Vanessa leaned closer, her eyes venomous. “Do you think that baby will make him come back?” Before I could turn away, she lunged. It wasn’t a slap or a cinematic punch; it was a brutal, calculated drop of her shoulder, driving her knee forward directly into my lower body. The sheer force of the impact threw me backward. My spine slammed into the heavy oak edge of the counsel table. A blinding, white-hot pain tore across my swollen abdomen. The courtroom erupted into chaos. Dana caught me just as my knees buckled, pulling me to the floor safely. The bailiff lunged, seizing Vanessa’s arms and dragging her backward. I looked up through tears of agony, seeking the father of my child. Marcus stood safely behind his table. He didn't reach for me. He didn't scream for a doctor. Instead, he looked at the bailiff with a calm, condescending sigh. “She tripped,” he said.
