Chapter 8 - The Silent Watcher

“She has been unstable all morning,” Marcus continued, his voice echoing over my ragged breathing. “Please do not overreact.” Vanessa, struggling against the bailiff, shrieked, “She blocked my path!” Judge Cole slammed her gavel, ordering the courtroom cleared and screaming for emergency services. He stood frozen on the threshold of the law, a silent spectator to his daughter’s abuse. The look on his face wasn't judicial rage; it was the shattering, breathless regret of a father realizing the true cost of his seven-year stubbornness.
