"You think you won, Claire?" he hissed, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and tears. "You’re going to spend the rest of your life alone in that massive house, looking in the mirror at that scar I gave you. You’re always going to remember what I did!"
Claire rose slowly from her seat. She walked down the aisle, stopping exactly two feet away from him, separated only by the wooden partition of the gallery. She looked at his pale, sweating face, then down at the heavy steel chains binding his wrists.
