Chapter 8 - The Price of Silence"Uncle Arthur, please, it’s a misunderstanding," Daniel begged, his hand gripping the phone so tightly his knuckles turned white. "Claire is using her family’s lawyers to construct a fake fraud narrative because she wants to strip me of my marital assets in the divorce!"

"Don't lie to me, Daniel," Arthur snapped through the line.
"I talked to Miriam Cole ten minutes ago. She didn't just show me invoices; she showed me the IP logs. Every single transfer out of the Sterling Trust was made from your home computer, using a cellular proxy registered under Vanessa’s name. You used my name as a reference on the corporate filing to make it look like I approved the transactions!"
Daniel’s stomach plummeted. He looked over at Vanessa, who was staring at him with wide, blank eyes.
"Arthur, I can fix it," Daniel whispered. "I just need a loan. Just fifty thousand to cover the immediate audit gap—"
"If you ever call my office again, I’ll personally deliver the rest of your financial records to the district attorney," Arthur said, his voice cold as stone. "You’re a thief, Daniel. And worse than that, you’re a stupid thief. Goodbye."
The line went dead.
Daniel dropped the receiver onto the cradle. He looked around the empty, silent office. The leather chairs, the frosted glass walls, the brass nameplate on the door—everything he had used to build his identity as a successful, self-made entrepreneur was turning into smoke.

"Daniel?" Vanessa asked, her voice trembling. "What do we do now?"
"We go find her," Daniel said, his eyes darkening into something desperate and dangerous. "She’s staying at her father’s old cabin by the lake. She always goes there when she’s stressed. We go there, and we make her sign a withdrawal of the protection order. We don't have a choice anymore."
